According to  archaeologist Dimitris Lazaridis, the first person excavating in the area in the 1960s, it was set up in honour of Laomedon of Mytilene, an important general of Alexander the Great, king of Macedon. It has a height of more than 4 m in its main body. Taking into account the base, it is taller than 8 m. It is chiefly known for being the birthplace of Aristotle, who was born in 384 BC and was a Greek philosopher and polymath, student of Plato, and teacher of Alexander the Great. It is worth visiting not only for its interesting instruments but also for the great view to the gulf of Ierissos. The park preexisted and the wonderful location was chosen in 1956 to host the statue of Aristotle, made by sculptor Nicholas, in honor. The unique interactive instruments were placed there in 2003.
